SB6183 suddenly only bonding 8 downstream channels. 155/20 plan.
The title sums it up pretty well. I am now only receiving 8 downstream channels, I was previously receiving 16 (yesterday) before a late night outage (the automated "answering machine" told me there was an outage right away).
I contacted both RCN and Arris support today... got punted back and forth a bit.
RCN told me they provision for speed, not the number of bonded channel... but when it came to the question, "Should I or should I not be bonding 16 downstream channels" I could not get a straight answer from them. They seem to fall back on the BYOD excuse, the SB6183 is capable of 16 downstream channels and was bonding them only (less) than 24hrs ago!
Arris at least seem to want to help but in the end, they said provisioning was up to the ISP (RCN).
RCN requires a 16 downstream modem, they told me this when I originally inquired about BYOD... so why are they now only utilizing half those channels? (I could have saved some money and purchased a cheaper, less capable modem!)
~~*I will post my levels momentarily. ~~

1gbps Internet in Lehigh Valley
I asked RCN chat reps multiple times but no one is giving a firm date on when 1gbps will be available in Lehigh Valley. Last week I met a RCN install guy in a friends house and he mentioned it will be here sometime before year end and it is delayed because there is no real competition here. He also showed me his device where they have it already updated to support CM8200 modems. He also mentioned that they will be supporting BYOM (SB8200) when it launches. This is opposite to what I saw on this forum for other markets.
Anyone know when RCN will be launching 1gbps in Lehigh Valley? It's been a long wait.

RCN Down, but they don't care
Contacted them on Twitter and Facebook. Quick response, but they don't listen. Before 5pm cable went down. Talked to rcn extensively via Twitter. Sorry, no issues in your area. Sent them a photo of the box my RCN is extended from, and the box is dead.(they confirm it's my box, and green red are out) There had to be at least 50 people on rcn after this box. Do you think they would send someone? Nope. Guess we can wait till tomorrow, or the next day.

[Connectivity] SSH Issues, Connection Timeouts with RCN 1 Gigabit
I've recently signed up for RCN's 1 Gig service, and they came over swapped my router with a Ubee UBC1301 Modem/Router.
I'm having issues SSH'ing into my remote machines, I've kinda came to the conclusion that Port 22 is blocked somewhere on the modem. I have no problem with SSH on my machine, using my other internet connections (like at work, or my phone's 4G via tethering) So this is purely an outbound issue.
Poking around the modem's configuration, there are a bunch of options, but I'm not sure if they are actually doing anything. Gateway > Advanced Settings > Options do show that IPSEC and PPTP are checked, and I've turned off Firewall on the modem. Other than that the Ping diagnostic tool seems to be buggy, leading me to think there are possible issues with the firmware. Perhaps the modem is defective?
I've called tech support asking if there are ports that could be blocked, and I was told there aren't, which makes sense, since I had no issue when I previously had 330Mbit service.
I've did a search and found one other user here https://superuser.com/questions/1211273/github-ssh-connection-hangs with almost the same issue, but there doesn't seem to be any solution.
Any help or suggestions would be great.

RCN Gigabit
I just saw this article: http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/rcn-to-offer-gigabit-internet-service-here/
My building in Chicago is looking at switching to RCN. Does anyone know what the upstream would be for this new gigabit service?
Also, RCN does not have caps implemented yet, right?

Rcn Speedtest site broken
Started noticing this a few weeks ago. Testing with the IL site, but seems to have similar issues on others too.
If you initiate an upload test, the test does not stop when the completion bar reaches the end. That is, even though it appears the test has ended, it's still uploading in the back ground. The only way to stop it is to either close the browser or toggle offline mode in the browser. This seems to be consisted between firefox, chrome, and opera. In edge, background data stops about 15 seconds after the test indicates completed. Does work correctly in the desktop version of internet explorer (windows 10) only.
Download test concludes properly.
This is not a problem if only a single test is run. The issue arises when subsequent tests are performed which result in erroneous results.

Where are Signal Levels and Event Log on Arris 3-in-1 Gateway?
I should be able to find this but couldn't.
Where exactly can I get the downstream/upstream cable signal levels and event log on the Arris DG2470 3-in-1 Gateway?
I know you can access the gateway (Arris DG2470 in my case) at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1 but then which are the menu items that provide that information?

[Connectivity] Lag/ping spikes at certain times of day
Hey guys,
I've recently just moved to Boston, (Somerville, specifically) and got RCN seeing that it was often rated highly and had really good packages. I used my own router and modem, and made sure they met and exceeded their minimum expectations. Everything was great, but I realized even since I first started playing some video games (namely League of Legends), there would be long term periods of lag that make the game unplayable. I normally average around 30-40 ping, but during periods of lag it would go up to 100-200, and sometimes exceed 500ms. I'm under the 50megabits plan, I don't think it could be the internet speed, could it? No one else is using the internet at this time, and I'm attached through ethernet cable.
What would most people do in these circumstances?

DG1670A firmware upgrade disabled MoCA?
I had a DVR connected to the net through MoCA with my DG1670A. After a power outage my modem appears to have picked up a new firmware version, TS0901103ASP1_032817_16XX.GW and 9.1.103ASP1. MoCA has been disabled and is no longer selectable. I can open the MoCA menu, but the checkbox to enable MoCA can't be checked. Has anyone else seen this? Thoughts on how to get MoCA enabled again? I'd rather avoid calling RCN support if possible, this seems prime for me getting someone who doesn't understand the issue or getting stuck in support prompt hell (is it really connected, did you reboot) unless someone knows some phrase I can tell support that will help me get to the right place.
Thanks

[Equipment] Gigabit self-install
Why are we not allowed to self-install the new modem for Gigabit?
Tech availability is at the lowest I've ever seen and everyone in my household works until 6, which is the latest a technician would be available.
I'm an install tech for a different company. This modem swap seems like it's just unplug coaxial, plug in the new one, send RCN the MAC Address to enable the modem (log into the web interface), etc.
Last time I had a technician install my modem for 155Mbps, he was clueless and just standing around trying to figure out why he couldn't connect.
My DHCP server (in the basement) was handing out a gateway IP that pointed to the wrong gateway...
I had to help him.
I fear I will run into this same issue and I work 20 minutes away and need to take a very long lunch for this install.
If this takes longer than two hours because the tech is clueless, then I'm doomed.

RCN codec's and resolution
With the talk in the layer3 thread about h264(https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31478829-) I wanted to see what rcn is doing right now in Chicago (still no h264 :( ). I used my cable card tunner, ffprobe, and a php script I wrote to compile a list of channels and what codecs they are using. I have a small page that transforms that nearly raw json into something it's easy to look at. the one thing to note is many channels have two audio streams (English and Spanish) and I tried to pick the better stream but if you want to see more you should look at the raw json for that channel.
You can use the filters at the bottom to see some neat combinations like what channels are 60fps but only 2 audio channels. There is also a search at the top right that searches the whole row.

https://lart2150.com/rcn/channels.9.4.2017.json - raw data. feel free to transform how you like.

Get RCN service in community
Hi!
I moved to the Gouldsboro, PA and found only one service provider in our community.
And based on it, prices supppppper high!
After conversation with community board I realized, nobody never thought about having few service providers available and let them fight for customers.
I'm trying to find who to contact in RCN to coordinate service delivery to our Community.
Thank you!

How much bandwidth does RCN have to a large Highrise
Just wondering, for large complexes on RCN, how much bandwidth does RCN have available in total per building?
Is it one shared oc48 ring for the building which would be 2.488 Gbps? If so, most people would not even get close to 1Gbps even if they paid for the full Gbps package. I am not sure the architectural design of RCN but hopefully they make improvements and will migrate to full fiber optics as they seem to be much better funded now.
